officially has a new title to add to our many esteemed awards and accolades: Pickleball champions. Servi-Tek execs, Kurt Lester and Scott Sutherland, recently participated in the City of Mission Viejo’s Men’s and Women’s Doubles Pickleball Round-Robin Social.

Held on Saturday, October 20, 2018, this month’s event featured men’s and women’s beginner and intermediate sets at the Mission Viejo’s Sierra Recreation Center.

Tickets cost $15 per player and, in true round-robin tradition, every athlete was guaranteed four doubles matches with no set partner.

Despite being new contenders in the pickleball arena, both Kurt and Scott finished the event as first and second place winners in the men’s’ division. For Servi-Tek co-founder, Kurt Lester, the choice to join the friendly competition was an easy one.

“At Servi-Tek, we work hard as a team delivering property management solutions to business owners throughout the area. However, we all truly enjoy spending time together and having fun outside of the office. Additionally, we are always looking for new ways to get involved in our surrounding community and participate in local activities. Mission Viejo’s Pickleball Round-Robin achieved all of that. Scott and I got to spend the day outside in Mission Viejo being active, having fun, and learning a new sport. It was a great way to spend a Saturday.”

Invented in 1965 by three Washington State dads as a clever cure for their children’s summertime boredom, pickleball combines various elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong.

Fun and easy-to-learn, the sport has gained significant popularity in recent years among players of all ages, athletic abilities, and skill levels.

According to the U.S.A. Pickleball Association, statistics indicate that over 2.815 million players participated in a pickleball competition in 2017, with 1.57 million athletes designated as “casual participants” and 930 thousand people considered “core” players.

While it’s too early to tell which category Servi-Tek’s pickleball rookies will eventually fall into, both players agree that they would welcome a chance to hit the courts again soon.  Doubles Pickleball Round-Robin Social 2018 Champions- Servi-Tek Facility Solutions
